As most of you know, for the past couple of years unplanned closures of the CT River ferries have been posted as a Traffic Incident on the CT DOT web page. The postings have been made by the DOT Highway Operation Center upon receiving an email or telephone call from the Captain of the Watch on the respective ferry to provide the closure information. Posting the closures on the CT DOT web site was a result of feedback from our ridership expressing the need to determine if the ferry is operating or not before making the drive to the ferry landing.
As of this morning, CT DOT is offering an automated ferry operation alert service for those interested in signing up.
Go to the CT DOT main web site (www.ct.gov/dot).
Click on the 5th icon down the right side (Sign Up to Receive Updates).
Follow the instructions on that page to sign up for the automated notification service.
Alternatively, you can go to the CT DOT web site and click on the Ferry and Ports button near the top of the page.
You will find links on that page to register for Email and Twitter E-Traffic and Ferry Alerts.
Click on the links and follow the instructions to sign up for the service of your choice.
Please distribute the above information to any of the members of the CT River Ferry Task Force, the Friends of the Rocky Hill Ferry and anybody else that you think might have an interest that I might have missed.
