Town of Lyme – Conditions as of Sunday, November 4, 2012 8:00 AM
For Information: For up to date information, please come to the information table located at the Hamburg Fire Station at 213 Hamburg Road from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon Sunday. The Town of Lyme website, www.townlyme.org, has been updated daily. Barring any unforeseen circumstance, this update will be the last. Thanks to all for the patience and courtesy exhibited once again as Lyme dealt with another challenging weather event. Please remember that the lion’s share of the recovery effort was orchestrated by your emergency service provider volunteers.
Power Status: As of 5:00 PM Saturday, CL&P reports 159 Lyme customers (12% of the town) without power, however these numbers are not updated until late in the day. Based on a visual assessment of work in progress, it is estimated that restoration will be substantially complete Saturday night. If for whatever reason you are still without power, continue to call the CL&P 800 number (1-800-286-2000) if you are able to do so. Please assume all downed wires are energized and stay clear!
Shelter Information: As of 5:00 PM Saturday, sheltering is still available at the East Lyme Community Center located on Society Road across the street from the East Lyme Middle School. Call 860-739-4434 to confirm whether they are still operating as a shelter.
Hadlyme and Hamburg Fire Stations are open Sunday 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon for water (bring own containers), showers (bring own towels/toiletries), bottled water, MREs, and toilets. Residents may recharge electronic devices as well. No meals.
Lymes’ Senior Center on Town Woods Road is available Sunday as a respite center starting at 7:00 AM. As of this writing, breakfast is the only meal scheduled to be served. Additional operating hours will be determined later in the day. Water (bring your own containers), bottled water, MREs (Meals Ready to Eat), toilets, recharging electronic devices, and meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) are available. No shower facilities. This location serves as a stop for the 9 Town Transit.
Lyme Public Library: Extended Hours: The Library will be open Sunday from 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM.
Lyme-Old Lyme Public Schools: School will be in session Monday, November 5 AND Tuesday, November 6. Tuesday was originally scheduled as a professional development day. School will now be in session that day. Power has been restored at the high school. Residents are advised that shower facilities are available at the high school Sunday, November 4 from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM.
Lyme Landfill: The Lyme Landfill will be open on Monday, November 5 for the regular operating hours 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM with the exception of 12:00 noon to 1:00 PM. As a reminder, the normal length and diameter restrictions for trees and brush will apply (length eight feet, diameter six inches).
FEMA Disaster Assistance: Information sheets regarding how to apply for disaster assistance from FEMA is available from 10:00 AM to 12:00 noon at the information table at the Hamburg Fire Station. After that, information sheets will be available at the Lyme Town Hall and the Lyme Public Library. You may also obtain information by visiting www.DisasterAssistance.gov, calling 1-800-621-3362, or visiting m.efma.gov on your smartphone.
Ice: Ice is available in the parking area between the Lyme-Old Lyme Middle School and Center School.
Trash Pickup: Regular pickup schedule is in effect. For an emergency pickup, please contact Jansky’s Rubbish Removal at 860.304.3537.
Business Update: Jane’s store (Hamburg), Hadlyme Country Store, Laysville Hardware and Coffee’s Market Deli (Old Lyme) are all open. Businesses on Halls Road, including Big Y, have had power restored. Many businesses in Old Saybrook are open. All-Pro is open and now has gas. Boston Post Road in Old Lyme has power.
