CL&P Prepared for Heat Wave and Possible Thunderstorms
Operational Status: MONITORING Mode
WEATHER SUMMARY
· Hot and humid weather will continue for at least three days. Possibility of widely scattered showers and thunderstorms today from 2 – 8 p.m.; threat of wind gusts of 40 – 50 mph
SYSTEM STATUS AND EMERGENCY RESPONSE
· CL&P works every day to prepare for severe weather and is well-prepared for the forecasted heat wave and possible thunderstorms
· We continue to monitor weather conditions
SAFETY FIRST AND ALWAYS
· Employees and all others affected by the heat are reminded to stay safe by drinking plenty of fluids, maintaining a well-balanced diet, and following recommended work/rest cycles
· Customer reminders, in the event of outages, include: safety around downed wires and proper generator use. For safety tips, go to www.cl-p.com
STAFFING/RESOURCE PLANNING
· No changes in work schedules are anticipated
LOGISTICS
· Storerooms are well-stocked with materials
OPERATIONS
· CL&P’s operational status is currently in MONITORING mode. Conditions exist that could present a potential risk to the electrical system in time, but currently pose no immediate threat
· All substations and critical system components are being inspected; all scheduled system work is being completed, where possible; the transmission system is in normal configuration
· Transmission Operations is coordinating closely with ISO-New England, Connecticut’s Regional Transmission Operator. At this point, there are no anticipated additional actions that would affect customers or the overall reliability of the electric system
· A heat wave preparations call was held at noon today
· The CL&P Emergency Operations Center is not scheduled to open at this time
