During DEER FIREARM HUNTING SEASON beginning Wed., Nov. 19 through Tues., Dec. 23, 2014, the following Preserves in Lyme will be closed Monday through Friday except to licensed hunters with consent permits: Banningwood Preserve, Beebe Preserve, Chestnut Hill Preserve, Eno Preserve, Hand Smith, Honey Hill Preserve, Jewett Preserve, Mount Archer Woods, Pickwick’s Preserve, Plimpton Preserve, and Slawson Preserve. These preserves, owned by the Town of Lyme or the Lyme Land Conservation Trust, will be open on Saturdays and Sundays during this period as no hunting is allowed there on weekends. Please be aware that hunting is allowed in Lyme on State and Private land every day except Sunday. Wear bright colors when walking in the woods. On Monday, Feb. 27, at 1:00 p.m., at the Lymes’ Senior Center, the center will offer a free training session in the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), which will be led by two local emergency medical technicians (EMTs), Colleen Atkinson and Doug LoPresti. The training session will explain how to recognize when someone is experiencing cardiac arrest and how to use this type of defibrillator. The EMTs will also demonstrate how to use hands-only CPR integrated with the use of an AED while waiting for an ambulance to arrive. The program is free and open to the public.
