On Monday, May 7, at 7 p.m., at the Lyme Public Hall, the Lyme Fire Marshal’s Office and the Ledgelight Health District will be offering a free informational seminar on food safety designed for nonprofit organizations that conduct special events involving the selling or offering of food to the public. Topics covered at the seminar will include the safety requirements that apply to the use of kitchens; the preparation and serving of food; food handling and storage activities; and proper sanitation. The presentation will also focus on the use of transportable LP gas devices, food trucks and solid-fuel cooking. On Monday, Feb. 27, at 1:00 p.m., at the Lymes’ Senior Center, the center will offer a free training session in the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), which will be led by two local emergency medical technicians (EMTs), Colleen Atkinson and Doug LoPresti. The training session will explain how to recognize when someone is experiencing cardiac arrest and how to use this type of defibrillator. The EMTs will also demonstrate how to use hands-only CPR integrated with the use of an AED while waiting for an ambulance to arrive. The program is free and open to the public.
