On Sunday, Jun. 23, at 1:00 p.m., the Lyme Land Conservation Trust (LLCT) will celebrate the opening of the LLCT’s beautiful new Riverside Preserve, a six-acre property that borders the newly restored portion of the Eightmile River by the former Ed Bill’s dam. Steve Gephard, a CT DEEP fisheries biologist, will talk about the effect the removal of Ed Bill’s dam has had on the health of the river ecosystem, including the migrating fish population that now has unrestricted passage to ancestral spawning areas. The preserve was donated to the LLCT by conservationist Barbara O. David. Riverside Preserve is located on Salem Road in Lyme, about ¼ mile from Route 156. (This event will be canceled in the event of rain.) For more information, contact firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Ledge Light Health District (LLHD) will hold a free vaccine clinic on Monday, Feb. 6, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., at the Lymes’ Senior Center. The clinic will offer residents a choice of a regular flu shot (not a high dose) or a Covid vaccine shot or both. The vaccines are available to anyone over the age of 18, with no cost requirement. The vaccines will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis until supplies run out. The clinic is offering walk-up service only; no reservations will be taken. Residents who want to receive the Covid vaccine should bring their Covid vaccination card with them.
On Monday, Feb. 27, at 1:00 p.m., at the Lymes’ Senior Center, the center will offer a free training session in the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), which will be led by two local emergency medical technicians (EMTs), Colleen Atkinson and Doug LoPresti. The training session will explain how to recognize when someone is experiencing cardiac arrest and how to use this type of defibrillator. The EMTs will also demonstrate how to use hands-only CPR integrated with the use of an AED while waiting for an ambulance to arrive. The program is free and open to the public. To register for the free event, please call the senior center at 860-434-4127.
