The Lyme Public Hall & Local History Archives will hold an old-fashioned Pie & Ice Cream Social on Sunday, Aug. 18, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., at the hall at 249 Hamburg Road. Admission is $5; children 6 and under are free. Homemade pies of all kinds will be available to enjoy; pies will also be available for sale while they last. Entertainment will be provided by the Eight Mile River Band.
Last day for timely payment of taxes levied on personal property list as of the previous October 1.

On Saturday, Sep. 26, at 2:00 p.m., at the Lyme Public Library: Author Erik Hesselberg presents “Night Boat to New York: Steamboats on the Connecticut 1824-1931” – which explores the days when steamboats on the Connecticut River transported people and goods between Hartford and New York City, and helped transplant the inland America “Spa Culture” to the seashore. Departing each afternoon from Hartford, the “night boats” reached New York at daybreak, inaugurating a pattern of city commuting that continues to this day. Free and open to all.
