Work has begun to renovate the recycling building at the Hamburg Road complex. When the renovations are completed: the new building will be slightly larger than the old one; the stairs will be gone; new, improved recycling instructions will be posted; motion-detector lights will be installed to aid residents who recycle in the evenings; and 24/7 video-monitoring capabilities will be enabled, allowing us to improve compliance. Most importantly, the new building will have a cost-saving compactor. Compacted loads of recyclables cost far less to transport to processing plants and we anticipate the Town will save approximately $25,000 each year from this improvement. Once the renovations are completed, the Town will also be switching to single-stream recycling at the Hamburg complex, meaning, residents will no longer need to sort their recyclables into different bins. More information will available here on our web page and the Town’s Facebook page as we get closer to opening the new facility.
