Various hunting seasons will soon begin in the Nehantic State Forest and Selden Neck – both of which are public lands controlled by the state. Lyme residents planning to hike or otherwise enjoy the use of these state lands during hunting seasons are encouraged to practice caution and wear bright colors.
- Bow hunting season for turkey and deer will initially run from Sep. 16 to Nov. 19.
- Shotgun hunting season for turkey will run from Oct. 5 to Oct. 31.
- Firearm hunting season for deer will run from Nov. 20 to Dec. 24.
- Bow hunting season for turkey and deer will resume from Dec. 25 to Jan. 31.
The state allows hunting to take place during hunting seasons from Monday to Saturday, from one-half hour before sunrise to sunset. Because these lands remain open to all users during hunting seasons – not just hunters – everyone is advised to practice caution and wear bright colors.
Please note that no hunting is allowed on Sundays on state land. Archery hunting is allowed on Sundays on private property with the written permission of the owner.
