CT Trails Day is a do-it-yourself event this year that takes place on Saturday, June 6, and Sunday, June 7. The Lyme Land Conservation Trust and Town of Lyme encourage residents to participate by taking a self-guided walk of the Heritage Trail in Hartman Park – while observing state and federal safety guidelines. For all the details – including how to download interpretive trail brochures, instructions on where to park and advice on what to expect on the walk, click here. On Saturday, Sep. 26, at 2:00 p.m., at the Lyme Public Library: Author Erik Hesselberg presents “Night Boat to New York: Steamboats on the Connecticut 1824-1931” – which explores the days when steamboats on the Connecticut River transported people and goods between Hartford and New York City, and helped transplant the inland America “Spa Culture” to the seashore. Departing each afternoon from Hartford, the “night boats” reached New York at daybreak, inaugurating a pattern of city commuting that continues to this day. Free and open to all. Register at 860-434-2272.
