The Town of Lyme is looking to fill two part-time Library Assistant positions at the Lyme Public Library.

  • The first position involves a 10.5-hour workweek, plus one 6-hour Saturday shift per month.
  • The second position involves a 14-hour workweek.
  • Neither position comes with benefits.

The job description of a Library Assistant is as follows:

  • Reports to the library director.
  • Suggested wage is $15.69 – $17.60 per hour, depending on education and experience.
  • Qualifications: College graduate and/or LTA coursework or certificate preferred. Knowledge and understanding of basic principles of library organization, procedures and tools. Computer, internet experience and excellent customer service skills required. Must be able to work effectively with others and maintain working relationships with users and staff, and to work independently when required.
  • General responsibilities include:
    • Opening and closing routines.
    • Circulation duties, including patron registration, reserves, shelving, interlibrary loans.
    • Reader’s advisory, reference and copy cataloging.
    • Assisting patrons with computer help and digital resources.
    • Clerical duties including Office software skills or equivalent; preparation of basic program advertising including signage and flyers; monitoring and responding to electronic communications from patrons.
    • Posting social media updates at the discretion of the library director.
    • Technical service duties include preparing new material for circulation, updating/correcting cataloging of older materials, updating and correcting new online catalog records.
    • Working knowledge of Sierra and PIKA preferred, but not required.
    • Working knowledge of Canva, Publisher or PowerPoint for advertising library events.
    • Preparing and maintaining interlibrary loans and their corresponding records.
    • Tracing overdue materials and resultant record keeping.
    • Assist in weeding/inventory as directed by the library director.
    • Assist in library programs as directed by the library director.
    • Attendance at continuing education workshops or webinars when deemed appropriate by the library director.
    • Other duties as assigned.
