First Selectman David Lahm announced that the Town of Lyme is contemplating projects to replace the Salem Road Bridge over East Branch Eight Mile River and Day Hill Road Bridge over Roaring Brook.

The bridge replacement projects would receive federal funds under the Federal Local Bridge Program administered by the Connecticut Department of Transportation.

The cost of the bridge replacements would receive 80% reimbursement from federal aid with the remaining 20% paid from state funds.

If undertaken, the project design would be expected to begin in 2024, with construction likely in 2027 and 2028.

Local and state policy encourages municipalities to share early information with their citizens on such projects and to encourage residents to raise any concerns with municipal officials early in the planning process.  Residents wanting additional information on these potential projects should contact Town Engineer Donald Gerber at 860-885-9040.

The federal aid for the project was authorized under the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act and/or Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act and/or Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act administered by the Federal Highway Administration and the Connecticut Department of Transportation.
