On August 8, 2024, Lyme’s Open Space Coordinator Wendolyn Hill graduated from the Connecticut Master Woodland Manager Program – a year-long educational program that provides participants with training from Connecticut’s top forestry and wildlife professionals and helps them acquire the knowledge and skills needed to make the right decisions for their woodland. The subjects covered in the program include forest ecology, climate change, forest health, wildlife support, management of pests and pathogens, recreational trail maintenance and forest-management practices.

As the Town ‘s open space coordinator, Wendy oversees 1,445 acres of Town-owned open space and 23 miles of trails; and is responsible for ensuring that the Town-owned preserves are protected, maintained and managed.

The Connecticut Master Woodland Manager Program is supported by a grant from the United States Forest Service and the Connecticut Forest & Park Association, through a partnership with CT DEEP, UConn, Yale, Audubon Connecticut and the Connecticut Land Conservation Council.
