The Board of Selectpeople is issuing an urgent request for assistance with the Town’s Emergency Assistance Fund.

This fund, which is typically funded solely through private donations, is used by our social service representative, Kathy Tisdale, to help residents who are struggling to pay for necessities like home heating oil and electric bills.  At its November 3 meeting, the Board of Selectpeople authorized the First Selectman to donate up to $2,000 to the fund to help provide support to the Town’s needy this winter.

During the winter, this fund is often rapidly depleted as it is used to assist residents who are struggling to keep the heat on while facing cold winter temperatures and higher electric bills.

Residents who would like to donate to the fund can mail a check made out to the “Lyme Emergency Assistance Fund” to Lyme Town Hall, Attn: Social Services, 480 Hamburg Road, Lyme, CT 06371.

Kathy Tisdale will send every donor an acknowledgement of their contribution, which can be used as a receipt for tax purposes.  The Town of Lyme is a governmental entity and, as such, contributions may be tax-deductible under Section 170(c)(1) of the Internal Revenue Code.

Questions about the fund can be answered by Kathy Tisdale at 860-575-0541.
