Since 2023, the Town of Lyme has enabled its residents to recycle their clothing, shoes, accessories and linens in a white, textile-recycling bin located adjacent to the Hamburg Recycling Center. Textiles that residents can recycle in this bin – as long as the items are clean and dry, and placed in a bag – include:

  • Footwear: Shoes, heels, pumps, sandals, boots, work boots, dress boots, winter boots, sneakers, cleats, slippers and flip-flops.
  • Clothing: Tops, sweaters, sweatshirts, dresses, tank tops, blazers, pants, jeans sweatpants, skirts, shorts, slacks, undergarments, socks, t-shirts, slips, pajamas, coats and aprons.
  • Accessories: Hats, pocketbooks, belts, gloves, duffle bags, ties, scarves, totes and bathrobes.
  • Linens: Sheets, blankets, draperies, dishtowels, table linens, comforters, throw rugs and placemats.

The collection bin is available to residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

According to Bay State Textiles, the vendor handling Lyme’s expanded textile recycling, 95% of unwanted textiles can be recycled, even if the item has been worn, torn or stained.
