“Summer Solstice Forest Bathing” @ Pleasant Valley Preserve

On Sunday, Jun. 20, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the Lyme Land Trust (LLT) will offer a “Summer Solstice Forest Bathing” excursion in the Pleasant Valley Preserve. “Forest bathing” is a practice that invites people to engage with nature and take in the restorative health benefits of being in the forest. Activities will include a group mandala created in honor of the longest day of the year. Registration is required. Tuesday Trek @ Burnham Brook Preserve

Lyme’s Open Space Coordinator Wendy Hill has announced that the final “Tuesday Trek” of the summer will take place next week on Tuesday, Jun. 22, from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., in the Burnham Brook Preserve; and that the popular program of weekly walks through different Town preserves will take a break in July and August before resuming in September.  To reserve a spot on this trek, see the contact information below.  In the event of inclement weather, the trek will be canceled.

On Saturday, Jun. 26, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., and then again from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., the Eight Mile River Wild & Scenic Watershed Committee will offer “Discover Reptiles & Amphibians with Herpetologist Dennis Quinn” at Hartman Park.  Quinn will demonstrate how to catch and observe different species using professional field equipment.  To register for the event or for more information, contact rdoherty@eightmileriver.org.  For the flyer, go here.

“Imagining Lyme Walk: Taking Photos that Express the Feeling of Depth” @ Pleasant Valley Preserve

On Sunday, Jun. 27, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Wendolyn Hill will lead a walk through the Pleasant Valley Preserve, providing instruction on taking photos that express depth.  The walk is part of the Lyme Land Trust’s “Imagining Lyme: A Visual Exploration of Lyme’s Preserves” amateur photography program, which encourages residents to expand their visual awareness while capturing the beauty of Lyme preserves.
