Bow hunting season for turkey and deer is about to resume in several Lyme preserves. Hikers and other residents using these preserves during hunting season are encouraged to practice caution and wear bright colors.
Bow-hunting season for deer and turkey will run Dec. 23 through Jan. 31 – with hunting permitted Monday through Thursday, from sunrise to sunset, in the following preserves:
- Beebe Preserve
- Chestnut Hill Preserve
- Eno Preserve
- Hand Smith
- Honey Hill Preserve
- Jewett Preserve
- Johnston Preserve
- Mount Archer Woods
- Pickwick’s Preserve
- Plimpton Preserve
- Slawson Preserve
The preserves, which are owned by the Town of Lyme or the Lyme Land Conservation Trust, will remain open to everyone during bow hunting season for turkey and deer. Please note that no hunting is allowed on Saturdays or Sundays.

Firearm hunting season for deer begins Nov. 18, 2020, in several Lyme preserves. These preserves will be closed during hunting season to all users except hunters, Monday through Friday.
Firearm hunting season for deer will run Nov. 18 through Dec. 22 – with hunting permitted Monday through Friday, from sunrise to sunset, in the following preserves:
- Beebe Preserve
- Chestnut Hill Preserve
- Eno Preserve
- Hand Smith
- Jewett Preserve
- Johnston Preserve
- Mount Archer Woods
- Pickwick’s Preserve (private property with an easement for the trail)
- Plimpton Preserve
- Slawson Preserve
As noted above, these preserves, which are owned by the Town of Lyme or the Lyme Land Conservation Trust, will be closed to everyone except hunters during firearm hunting season for deer.
Please note that no hunting is allowed on Saturdays or Sundays.

Various hunting seasons will soon begin in the Nehantic State Forest and Selden Neck – both of which are public lands controlled by the state. Lyme residents planning to hike or otherwise enjoy the use of these lands during hunting seasons are encouraged to practice caution and wear bright colors.
- Bow hunting season for turkey and deer will initially run from Sep. 15 to Nov. 17.
- Shotgun hunting season for turkey will run from Oct. 3 to Oct. 31.
- Firearm hunting season for deer will run from Nov. 18 to Dec. 22.
- Bow hunting season for turkey and deer will resume from Dec. 23 to Jan. 31.
The state allows hunting to take place during hunting seasons from Monday to Saturday, sunrise to sunset. Because these lands remain open to all users during hunting seasons – not just hunters – everyone is advised to practice caution and wear bright colors.
Please note that no hunting is allowed on Sundays.
