Lyme experienced two residential burglaries recently and the selectmen ask residents to be security conscious and alert to their surroundings . A private residence on Mt. Archer Road and another on Selden Road were burglarized recently and a significant amount of jewelry and works of art were stolen. Please, be aware of what is going on in our neighborhoods. If you see any people or vehicles acting in a suspicious fashion, contact the Troop F State Police barracks in Westbrook immediately. In addition, there are some basic things that can be done to minimize your exposure. Do not leave cash or valuables in your cars and lock them every night. Keep your garage doors closed and locked as well. If you are going to be out of town for any period of time, arrange for your mail and newspapers to be picked up. Have a neighbor check your house periodically and vary the lighting pattern in your home at night if at all possible.
In order to take a more proactive approach to the problem, the Board of Selectmen has begun investigating the possibility of utilizing the our web page for development of a town wide alert system, perhaps with a link to Troop F. There will be further posts as the process evolves.
In the interim, our best defense against this type of crime is an alert, involved citizenry. Please, be vigilant and report suspicious activity immediately.
