Starting Thursday, Aug. 17, Lyme residents will be able to recycle even more of their textiles at the Hamburg Recycling Center in a new white bin marked “Clothing Shoes & Linens.”

Textiles that residents can recycle in this bin – as long as the items are clean and dry, and placed in a bag – include:

  • Footwear: Shoes, heels, pumps, sandals, boots, work boots, dress boots, winter boots, sneakers, cleats, slippers and flip-flops.
  • Clothing: Tops, sweaters, sweatshirts, dresses, tank tops, blazers, pants, jeans sweatpants, skirts, shorts, slacks, undergarments, socks, t-shirts, slips, pajamas, coats and aprons.
  • Accessories: Hats, pocketbooks, belts, gloves, duffle bags, ties, scarves, totes and bathrobes.
  • Linens: Sheets, blankets, draperies, dishtowels, table linens, comforters, throw rugs and placemats.

Please note that residents can continue to recycle their clothing and shoes in the blue MADD bin.

According to Bay State Textiles, the vendor handling Lyme’s expanded textile recycling, 95% of unwanted textiles can be recycled, even if the item has been worn, torn or stained.
