River Valley Transit’s (RVT’s) Taxi Voucher program can provide accessible transportation at a substantially discounted cost for Lyme residents who are age 60 and older and residents of any age who have disabilities. Every dollar of taxi service purchased by qualified residents is matched by a dollar from this RVT program, up to a total of $5,000 a year. The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, for travel throughout Connecticut – so, both within and outside of RVT’s normal service area and hours of operation. Program Basics & Eligibility
- The “Taxi Voucher” program is open to Lyme residents who have disabilities or who are 60 years or older – including anyone with a Medicare card, an ADA Paratransit ID card or CT statewide reduced-fare card.
- The taxi provider RVT uses to supply the service is M7 (Connecticut’s largest, full-service taxi company).
Application Process
- Residents must complete and submit an application in order to qualify to use the service.
- Application forms are available online here. (Residents can also call 860-510-0429 x106 to have an application mailed to them.)
- Residents must complete and return the application form with an initial payment of at least $25 to begin using the program.
- Residents who qualify will be mailed a Taxi Voucher card from M7 with double the dollar amount they submitted as payment. (So, a $25 initial payment will result in a $50 card.)
Purchasing Additional Vouchers
- Additional taxi vouchers can be purchased online or by mail.
- Every dollar of taxi service purchased is matched by a dollar from this RVT program, up to $5,000 a year.
- Taxi vouchers may be limited based on program funding.
Taxi Voucher Card
- Residents who are certified as being eligible for the program will receive a Taxi Voucher card from M7 and must present this card when using the service.
- Individuals must also present identification when using the Taxi Voucher card.
Reservations
- Reservations must be made at least two days in advance, but can be made as far ahead as one month in advance.
Assistance/Travel Companions
- Up to three companions, including a personal care attendant, may ride for free with the eligible rider.
- Service animals are welcome.
Hours of Operation
- The service is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
