“(Hartford, CT) [9/14/2026]– Attorney General William Tong issued the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the preliminary injunction secured by Connecticut and a coalition of 24 other states blocking the United States Postal Service from implementing burdensome requirements on vote-by mail systems ahead of the November 3 midterm elections.”…

“The injunction will now continue to block USPS from requiring states to obtain the federal government’s approval of ballot and return-envelope designs, register for a new USPS portal for tracking voter information, input information for each of their state’s voters into the portal, and comply with other provisions.”…

From the National Conference of State Legislatures:
“The Justice Department began requesting copies of statewide voter registration lists in May 2025, marking a significant shift from its historically limited role in voter list maintenance.
Many states declined to provide the DOJ with full, unredacted voter lists, prompting the agency to file lawsuits against them and leaving courts to determine the scope of federal authority and voter privacy protections.
As of Aug. 18 [2026], the initial cases against Arizona, California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia, West Virginia and Wisconsin have been dismissed by federal courts.”
